Tasting rooms on the North Fork come in many shapes and sizes. Pulling up to the Riverhead Ciderhouse at 2711 Sound Ave in Calverton, you aren’t sure what to expect. Located inside the Grapes and Greens warehouse space (formerly Blackman’s Plumbing), you find yourself in a stunning tasting room that not only celebrates the cider they proudly produce but also the North Fork itself. Local wines, beers and ciders from multiple North Fork businesses are available for taste and purchase, showing that Riverhead Ciderhouse is embracing the region as a whole.
In addition to plenty of seating both inside and out, there is also kitchen space where pizza, heroes and pretzels, among other things, are offered to entice you to settle in for an afternoon. Cidermaster Greg Gove, formerly of the winemaker at Peconic Bay, will be making the cider on the premises. His previous experience with cider includes Peconic Bay’s True Believer and True Companion.
With everything they have to offer, it should be no surprise that this is an establishment one should expect to frequent, as there’s way too much to taste in a day.
