A Sparkling Weekend

Sparkling_Pointe_Dinner-20140914-03This Sunday the 14th, while all manner of harvest celebrations overtook the North Fork, four top rated North Fork chefs converged in the vines at Sparkling Pointe to create a fantastic meal and experience for all attendees.

Chefs Wayne Waddington of La Plage in Wading River, Marco Pellegrini of the brand new Caci in Southold, Noah Schwartz of Noah’s in Greenport, and Claudia Flemming of the North Fork Table of Southold each prepared a delicious course which was paired with sparkling wine from Sparkling Pointe.

Too often, we at North-Forks think that people reserve sparkling wine for special events (technically Champagne can only come from that region in France, all other bubblies are designated Sparkling Wine).  Attributed to many different people, we believe this quote sums up how sparkling wine should be consumed: I only drink champagne when I’m happy, and when I’m sad. Sometimes I drink it when I’m alone. When I have company, I consider it obligatory. I trifle with it if I am not hungry and drink it when I am. Otherwise I never touch it – unless I’m thirsty.

Sunday was a perfect day for being outside.  The weather was temperate, the sun bright, the breeze light.  Sitting with friends and soon-to-be friends among the vines and sharing a fantastic experience was an amazing way to create memories for the autumn of 2014.  Guilles Martin, winemaker for Sparkling_Pointe_Dinner-20140914-10Sparkling Pointe, sabered a bottle towards the end of the meal, and later told North-Forks that the harvest of 2014 will go into the books as one of the best Long Island has produced.  Certainly, this was the sort of news that allowed us to leave our meal with the expectation of amazing wines and events to come.
